Hello to you.
It has been almost 2 years now since I was here. The break was long but was a needed one. I was so busy with work, wedding, move to Germany, I just had to put some things to a halt.

Just settled in Germany, love my apt and my work space and I am looking to be active again. I have forgotten how I put my blog header up, so there're plenty of relearning. I would love to continue to give out freebies, but would love to be part of a designing team or creative team.

It's a close knit family there, and I hope I get welcome back again soon.

There is a bit of getting used to here in Germany, in Shanghai, day light starts at 6am. Yes even in winter, so here I am at almost 8am and the sky it still dark and everyone seems to be asleep still. Why am I up? I am still in Asian time.

Date Strips Freebies.

Hello Ladies,
Sorry for not posting sooner and I think some of you were thinking of grabbing the ribbons. I got too busy packing and now I am here in Germany, it was snowing in the morning and I was really happy to see this.

I am now using the German PC and the keyboard is all changed, for example the Z and Y keys are switched. The ? key is also not in the 'correct' spot. Etc so I am typing very slowly.

I have changed my mind and I have decided I will give the ribbons on Christmas day, so today I want to give you the Date Strips. I see many people were using these dates strips and selling them too, and since I thought it is not too difficult to make them, as Susan likes them as well, I tried to see if I can make some and I did. Here have a look.

Christmas Break

My Christmas break is here, well more like in 6 hours. I will be flying tonight at midnight across the Europe continent to Germany.

How was your weekend? Mine turned out quite well and here I am at home again. Today

One more week and I will be flying to Germany for my Christmas break. I hope it will snow so I get a White Christmas but I heard from Thomas that it hasn't snow for Christmas for the past two year and it's likely not to snow.

This evening was my last minute Christmas Calendar and wrapping presents day. My students and I are playing Secret Santa, so I have tons of presents to wrap today, including the ones I made for my family. Well I thought I should just not wrap my BBooks but then it didnt have that Christmas feel. So in the end I went over the top!

Today's Ribbon is Swirled!

Nothing much to say, just that it's cold. Despite loving the cool air and winter. Shanghai's homes. ALL of them, are not built to contain heat. There's no insulation. We have brick walls, and it feels like I am living in medieval times where I need to cover my walls with thick cloth or tapestry.

Since I have none of those, I live in my felt robe and expensive heating system through every winter.

Well so far I have no one telling me that they can not download from my first ribbon day, so here goes. I hope you like the second set.

I am still trying to upload my things to my near file share site. I was rummaging through and realised that I have my ribbons in Mediafire. I know I cant get to it but the site is still running and I can give freebies again!! Why didn't I think of that?

Hello Ladies,
After a month down with blockage and I have come to accept I might have another down time again, but I have found DEVShare and made myslef an account. So, tonight I will try out my new freebie for you.

November has been good, despite that I can not do much freebie give away. I have been making a lot of hybrids for my Christmas presents and knitting! Yes, I knitted neck warmers for my two friends and they are using it.

Weather is Shanghai has been the same, cold! But I am sure some places where you are, are colder. So, I will do some uploading tonight. I have some ribbons for you for the Christmas season. I am not going to make Christmas freebies as they are so many out there already.

Gone Hybrid.

So, I will post them on my blog soon.
As mentioned in my I MISS YOU blog I have gone hybrid a bit because of the BLOCKAGE on MediaFire in China.

I never really wanted to go Hybrid because I thought it was like double work. But in Summer I made two little brag books for my God daughter and a friend's daughter as well as was excited to see how excited they were too have the gift. Not many people have scrapbooking as a hobby in Malaysia.

Anyway, I made some Christmas give for my Mom and all ladies in the house.. and here's the bragbooks I made. I used someone's BB QP. As I am terrible in giving credits (that's why I never place my LO here) so I am declaring that all the QPs, SB papers and elements shown in the pictures before are not mine but freebies I have DL from other designers.

So, here's the Bragbooks.

Here's a Christmas gift for Thomas's Mom..A Chinese photo album with scrapbook pages

Now, yesterday I went and bought an album about 28cm x 28cm, it is on Christmas sale for 160yuan (Usually over 200 yuan)which is how much in Dollars? no idea. I had one on order for the silk cloth material I like. How great is this, it's on sale and you can to choose the cloth material you like! I will get this by Tuesday.

So this book as 40 pages meaning it can house 80 pages. This afternoon I went to the printer and printed 66 pages of my travel digital scrap pages and paid 330yuan, it's 5 yuan a page. Got some glue sticks.. and watched one talk show and a movie to glue all the pages. Boy it looks really good...have a look!

Well that's the things I did while missing on the freebie world. :)
I am working hard ladies to get something going.. if not, when I am in germany I will start my Oriental Chanlenge there.

I MISS YOU!!

Dear Ladies,
fingers itching and I have my November Oriental Challenge eagerly sitting in my Hard Drave waiting to get out.

It's official that Media Fire is blocked :( sob sob sob. I am still finding a way to get around it.
I miss giving out freebies.. seriously.

I had so many freebies ideas and it's just sitting there.

Good news that I turned a little Hybrid while I am in search of a way to get to my MediaFire.. I heard about proxy.. so I am trying to see what that means.

So the Hybrid that I made were bragbooks.. I have a few bragbooks freebies in the past and didn't really use that so, I popped in the local Chinese Stationary shop and bought some plastic covers, my friend Susan, my only scrapbooking friend in China, had some ribbons and I used the ribbons to make it pretty.

The good thing is the materials is not expensive here. I made 8 bragbooks over a week!! the plastic covers cost about 1.50 yuan, and the printing, a nearby University Press, cost about 5yuan for an A3 colour printing!!! how cool and cheap. I will take some pictures of the hybrid I made ok? And show it to you. I love my Christmas gift and I am sure my God daughter and my mom will lover her gift.

Another Hybrid is a Christmas gift to Thomas's Mother. As I will be spending Christmas in Germany this year, my FIRST European Christmas, I wanted to give her a meaningful present. I went and bought a photo album. The album is covered with Chinese silk and it comes with a matching box. I used as many pictures as I can and scrapbook it and print it out like a photograph and insert it in the album!! it's really cool I get a picture to show you. There are 40 pages but I have only 18 pages but hey, this gives me chances to scrap this christmas trip and then send it to her and she can add more pictures to the album!! What a great idea.. :)

I am thinking of making my own scrapbook I have about 30 pages on my Japan trip and about 30 pages on my last year's Europe trip. I have asked a few publisher to print my books. It cost about 300 yuan. and 8X8 hard cover book. I wonder how much it is for Shutterfly and how big is the book I will check that out too.

Thanks to DebM and Lisa for your comments. I am not giving up girls. I know I may not make a huge difference in the Scrapping world but hey I know my freebies are liked by many and I will not give up. So once I get back on my feet I will be giving you FREEBIES again.. I love doing it. :)

As for now, I will keep a consistant blogging and keep you up dated in my blogging world.

Temporary Out

Dear All
Thank you for yoru support and encouragement. I took a nice break from scrapping and now I am back, but I can not be back to give freebies anymore.

Not because I don't want to it's because the file sharing site I am at, MEDIAFIRE, is blocked. As you know I am constantly getting challenged this way. When I first started DigiScrapping Blogger was blocked.

Then 4shared is blocked. Now MediaFire.com is blocked in CHINA!!! So no more sharing and the chances to get freebies for me is even lesser and I can not give you freebies. Well, you lucky folks out there, count your blessings and always thank the designers who give you freebies.

Good news for me, I can fully concerntrate on my scrap projects.
If mediafrie is lifted, I will be back and you will know it.

Boring people

So, as interesting as I thought digital scrapbookers they are with their awesome layouts and out to grab freebies, they are just boring on the inside. Only one response, Lukasmama, she made an effort to play the game .. well, not that I expect all who take my freebies play but just one person to response to my previous challenge says all and over 500 downloads on borders and grungy blocks.

I will be staying MIA for a while, to work on my projects and less on freebies. No Freebies for today but my challenges are still up
this mini Comment Challenge and the October Oriental Challenge.

Mc D 24hours and delivering in Shanghai PLUS mini challenge Freebie

I think most people of my generation remember when McD did not exist. When I was young A&W was the in thing in Malaysia. A good treat is the rootbeer and waffles with unlimited syrup!

Now Mc D is the in thing. Well to people living in Shanghai. Last year they decided to go 24 hours!! Can you imagine that, if you live near a McD and you woke up hungry and you single and your fridge is empty (like mine). You just walk in with your pajamas for some Apple pie!!

Well, walking in your pajamas is OK in Shanghai, everyone does it! But getting some apple pie?? NO WAY, they have stopped Apple Pie for McD China.. why? Not Chinese fav.

They prefer some odd flovours (says my Western friend) like, red bean pie, green bean pie, peach cobller, banana (my fav!-no longer making them) and at the moment it is Pineapple pie and Taro pie. 2 for 7yuan, like 2 pie for 1dollar.

To top it up, of course i am not so fortunate to live next to McD, they deliver 24/7 too :) Now that is cool... I like McD Spicy Chicken wings...and thier pies, I used to like thier shakes until the recent milk issues here. (plus I am not a milkshake fan).

Why am I talking about this?That's because I am having MACCERS for lunch, totally unhealthy but I forgot to bring my protien drink today, well yes, I am on diet but not a strict diet as you can see haha. I do go to gym trice a week. (pat on the back)

So, tell me if McD is giving such a service where you are at? 24 hours services? wierd / cultural menu. McDs here have prosperity burger. KFC has portugese egg tart and rice porridge.. oh the list goes on.

Grungy Block Freebie

Good day,

Today's freebie is a challenge for me from my Scrap buddy. She loves to look at people layout and that inspire her to make a layout of her own. This is what I like about Susan, we actually do compliment each other as Scrap Buddy, she would show me things she like on the LO and I would think if I could make that.

So, the other day she showed me a few LO where the pictures all faded to the side, like feathering but looks a bit grungy, she likes grungy. I took a look and told her that it looked like brushes all piled up together. I have many brushes by now, thanks to BRUSHEEZY.com, and I told her I could make a few for her.

I used some mask brush, coffee stain brush, some floral vectors and grunge brush and piled them up artistically on each other. Then we tested them, I took a picture and placed it above the mearged layer of brushes and Ctrl G-ed it. That puts a smile on our face :), I was really happy with the result... so, there it is very easy to make the blocks, pile up your brushes artistically and then merge them together and you have a grungy block.

Dead at 19 and a Freebie

It is always upsetting to see young people being killed by another young people or by war etc.

This morning I read about New York Rangers draft pick Alexei Cherepanov dies unexpectedly in Russia at the age of 19. Not this is very strange.

I mean if he is sickly and has a life threatenin disease, fine, but a sportman just drop dead like this and no one is tell us what happened to him. The first thing that came to my mind was drugs. How can some people not educate our teenagers about the effects of drugs? Ok I may be jumping the gun at the moment. I believe parents should pay close attention to their children. Yes, he is 19 a full grown adult so what? he is still your child check on them from time to time.

Oh I hope his parents will have a peace of mind once they find out what actually happened.

Today's freebie are Borders with words., I made it for my friend
who has two boys and from there I realised I was making more. I ended up using two for my own Layouts and the rest I hope you find them useful too.
I tried my new preview style.. I used mostly brushes to make
this preview. I like them simple to that the elements stand
out. What do you think? it's a bit rough on the edges.

There are 8 borders all together. You can recolour them to match with your layout. You should put the borders inside your picture
just like the WITH LOVE border sample in the preview.

My Birthday, embracing my age.

I'm officially 34 today, but what is age? In my mind I always think I am about 28. In some culture, it is totally rude to out right ask a lady person of her age. As I get older I realised people tend to be cautiously askng what my age is.

Age is age, but we are so caught up with the conformity of the society that we tend to make it so sensitive, so taboo, so no-no and that people has to step gingerely around you just to see if you will disclose your age.

My first year in China, I met many local Chinese, and the first thing they do is to ask, how old are you? base on that age they will proceed to the next question. If you are in the 20s, they will ask "Do you have a boyfriend?" and if you are in the 30s they will ask "Are you married?" Funny eh?

Of course I always get the THIRD question, "How come you are not married?" and the FORTH, "Why don't you have a boyfriend?" and the FIFTH, "Don't you want to be married?" etc
I can image if a few of my other single available female friends were to be asked these questions, they will either clam up or be in tears! I just answered all the questions out of curiosity just wanting to know what is the last question. There were no last question but a last statement, " I will help you find a boyfriend!" haha

So, age is age, it should not affect us, us women in this new millennium should not have such attitude and mid frame about age. Why are you afraid of your age? You can not get rid of it, and you can not turn back the counter (Although many try using other physical power). A few of my friends also say the 30's is the new 20s. Are you kidding me?

Women has come a long way to where we are with the society, we have done leaps and bounce and why let a little 2 numbers get into our way of thinking?
So here I am 34!

Now let's back to the real reason you are here :) thanks for reading and thanks to those to took time to tell me that they like my work. I really appreciate them as your words have encouraged me. While you wait for the things to be downloaded please leave a comment I love to hear what you have to say about AGE.

Tomorrow is my Birthday. I am really happy, I think the 30s is the new 20s a few years back but now I believe the 30s is the modern 30s.

I know what I want in life, and I don't think the people in the 20s will ever understand what it is like to be in the 30s until you have cross this line.

Enable the Disable

That's what I was told yesterday after the IT techy looked at my LT. I won't moan anymore today about this because what I did was really silly, no idea when I did it but I did it. I disabled the local connection, so that was why my LT didn't give any LAN signal. Silly right? but 'phew' it's all right now.

Yesterday I had HOT POT for dinner, it's the healthiest way to eat. I try to eat almost no carbohydrate at all these days just meat and veg. Not that I am super thin or really over weight, but I am a big size person. I want to eat healthier from this year onwards.

So this hot pot is like this, you get your own little pot and everyone will order meat or vege. They have the regular meat like pork, beef, mutton, seafood and poultry and some restaurant has beef tongue, crocodile meat, frog legs, sea cucumber etc and vegies like lettuce, radish, potato, all types of mushrooms and more. My fav is fried Soy Bean Skin and mushroom. The soup come in several flavour, ultra spicy, mushroom, healthy, peanut and more.

You then pick your own sauce of condiments to compliment the meat or vegies by dipping on them when your food is cooked. You wait for the soup to boil and start to put the things you like to eat into the pot and cook it yourself :) Simple and very yummalicious!

Here, various of condiments for you to blend your sauce, from sesame oil to soysauce, sesame seed, peanut sauce, XO sauce, Hot chilly pepper, spring onion, garlic, onion etc.

Here you see the mutton and beef we ordered, the far left is the frog's leg, and next to the pot you see bowl of say sauce and the T's condiments next to his bowl.

I go there at lease once a week. One of my favourite meal in Shanghai. Healthy and delicious!

Today I will give you my third last day Birthday Grab... On my birthday I will give you the most glittery freebie of all. I think I forgot to tell you that these grabs only last for around 2 days and they will not be given out again so, remember not to miss these few days freebies ok?

My father came to visit me yesterday from Malaysia, when I returned home from work we chatted and he casually mentioned that the economy in the world is looking pretty bad and that nothing is permanent and the only thing permanent thing is GOD. He is ever here with us and never change.

At one point he said something about being online in the afternoon to read even more news about the present situation. I stopped him. "What ? You got online?" I abruptly went to my laptop and hooked up, the joy of being connected again just gave me such great happiness, but was in vain. It didn't work on my computer. Only his, and this is when I realised that my LT connection to the internet is faulty. So, there's no problem with the internet, the problem lies on my baby LT!!

How sad I was. I felt a little betrayed as I take care of LT very carefully and she went sick on me!! I know it's a silly thing to say this, but I am really sad and I hope I can fix this problem ASAP.

Anyway, my goal this week is to improve on my kit previews. A friend pointed to me that my previews are not marketable... so I am going to try this week to make my Nov. Oriental Preview to look better. I do have to say that my FROM GERMANY WITH LOVE preview is pretty nice... I like the little sticker in the middle of the papers compare to the strip across. You don't know what I am saying? You know the middle sticker in the middle of the papers?? Ah, well then I should show you.. let's see this one!

See that? I like it that way.. But I like to make a nice one for myother kits, maybe a rounded corner one or something. What do you think of this preview? It is attractive enough?

Well I will make a new Nov. Oriental Preview and then let you see the old and the new together. And like to hear what you think, Ok?

The preview here shows Sunflowers and another orange flower (no idea what is the name, I'm terrible at keeping a record of flower names) We were riding through the scenic view, mind you all the views surrounding Adelsheim is Beautiful, and we passed by a patch of SUNFLOWERS.Being a city girl I have never really seen fields of sunflowers in real time. I have seen plenty in pictures, so I made T (my boyfriend) turn around and stopped to let me just look at the field, what else would I do next, you say. Took PICTURES!! It was a very happy picture time. So after doing a bit of tweaking the papers, now they turned out beautiful!

The other picture was taken in Bad Rappernau, a nearby town to Adelsheim and they were promoting a flower festival, I was a little dissappointed with the festival because there weren't many variety, but I captured a few flowers for my freebies to you. This orange ones are gorgeous. Don't you think?

I sat in front of my Laptop yesterday night clicking the connect button that links me to the cyberworld about a million times. I was not able to do so, and if this happened 8 years ago, I would be jummpind around getting edgy because I can not read my news, my email, chat and do some net surfing in the comforts of my own home.

But yesterday I was calm, I just continue to work on my Scrap Journalling, texted my landlord to ask him to replace the modem or find out what happened. I watched some movie and went to bed early.

I have come to realised that I can still life a fulfilling day without using a laptop day and night, but as you know given the opportunity, I like to be online. It is like being hooked up on an IV drip.

Well, I just realised that my birthday counter is wrong!!.. Its not 2 days left!! I still like to cherish my younger me today, tomorrow and up to Saturday!! I will be the older me, but still young at heart (How many times have you heard this line already, yea?) on Sunday.

To celebrate 3 more days of being 33!! Hey triple 3! Let me share a Brackets with you.

American October Celebration.

It's the Halloween month.
I remember my host told me the first year I was in Arkansas that they do not celebrate Halloweens but Nov 1st, all Saint's day. (I think) It was more of a religious celebration for them on Nov first then Halloween.

To me is a day where all American children play dress up in the community and get candies. In Shanghai, most expat families, not just Americans, would participate this costume seasons. Children will knock on your door, which is decorated to indicate you are participating in this event, and the apartment tenant will pass out candies, coupons or homemade cookies.

There is also a darker side to this celebration, not that I know clearly what it is, but I remember my host family telling me children in the community can only be trick or treating in the same community they are from, for safety reasons. Kidnapping and people making thier own candies with razors or silica powders etc for the kids to eat!

I never celebrate Halloween, that is because I never grew up doing this. In Malaysia, no one does it and by the time I was in America for my studies, I was too old to participate.

Although I do like the idea of dressing up for a fun occasion, since I can not do that here or I don't have pictures of me in costumes I am sharing PingPing with you.

Recently I will be busier. A friend and I came up with the idea that I design the cover of the Wedding Guest Book for her as she is a wedding planner. I have agreed to do this for her and I am really excited.

I hope I can continue to give freebies to you as my work began to pile up. I am very very happy to share my work with you. Especially those who made effort to write me and encourage me. Oh, I have finished finally my November Oriental Challenge and I am working on the December Oriental Challenge. It will be a Peranakan Themed. (a Chinese Malaysian Theme)

I will not be doing any Christmas Challenge, but I may have a surprise Christmas gift for you. I will be away most of Dec as I will be celebrating Christmas in GERMANY!! for the first time with BF's family. I will try to bring my HD with me so I can set up Christmas gifts for you everyday. Like a Christmas Advent? Everyday you open a box and a small gift inside?? Nice idea? What do you think?

Oh well. I need to get to work on my Wedding Guestbooks layouts.

Observing the Chinese

Good weekend to you.

It's Saturday, and one more day and I will be back at work. Holidays passes very fast, I wanted to do one LO a day but it was hard due to some circumstances. Although I did get two LOs done since I got back from my holiday.

My October Oriental Challenge is here, so remember to scroll down to grab the challenge. I know you may find it hard to find something to go with the theme. But you don't really have to get into the FULL oriental gear for a LO. Anyway, it's on and the last day is the 31st of this month.

Yesterday, I went out again and will do so today! I was at this street where locals buy their food to eat and right across this street I was welcomed by Starbucks and Mark&Spencer etc. So first here are Pictures of the people selling the food and how this local street looks like.

We went to have a cuppa and I tried out the peanut butter scones. While sitting and relaxing, I realised I was watching the Chinese people behaviour and I click on my video button and this is what I saw while enjoying my cuppa.I hope you like it, it's a short clip, I made the clip faster so, NO this is not how fast the Chinese can walk. At the end of the clip you may find the most interesting person in the most surprising attire in broad daylight HOWEVER it is a very very very COMMON attire worn by many Shanghainese.(Someone even published a picture book about this)

Now,today's freebie is a birthday give away. Frames with Chinese Oriental design. I have tons or textures, BF thinks I am a little nutty but he is very patient with me whenever he is out with me. I am always clutching my camera instead of his arms and would go into my scrapping world through the lens of my Samsung. I thought I share some of my textures with you through frames. Do you have back ups for your digital materials?

Hello all,
No freebies today. I guessed it is fate that is telling me not to work. I decided to bring my laptop with me so that I can do a little chinese girl designing while I am relaxing. I have a few sketches in my notepad and I am thinking of having PingPing wear a halloween costume.

What do you think? Asian themed with American culture?

Upon arrival I realised that I have packed my wire for my hard drive but I did not pack my hard drive! It was still in Shanghai and still in Shanghai. It's a sign, I take that I need to just rest and relax and do NADA. I had my murals in my Laptop so I gave that out and that was about it.

I have jsut recently bought a 1TB (Terrabyte) Hard drive. How many do you have? I think it is very important to back up your materials. At first I have only a 100GB hard drive and I thought that was plenty for my docs. Before I started scrapbooking, I only needed that much. Most of my things are saved on my LT (laptop) and I burnt them on to my DVD too.

When I started making videos, as I discovered Windows movie maker, I realised that my collection of pictures and videos and movies are getting bigger and bigger. So, I bought a 500GB Harddrive... within half an hour I was left with 150GB space, that's because BF used up almost all my space for his files. I wasn't too worried as I still have 150GB and I can tap into BF's files too!

That was 2 years back. 6 months ago, I got a 250GB. Not enough... as I have many Layouts and music and etc... I added a 2GB RAM into my LT and just 3 weeks ago I got a 1TB HD.

It is very important to get your things backed up. You don't want to risk, viruses, or death of the HD or fire or etc. All your time spent to grab freebies or making your LO using them will disappear. Call me paranoid, but I do this to that I am not worried about this. I am also thinking of saving my LOs not just in 4 different DVD but also now the online files like MEDIA FIRE or RAPID FIRE or 4SHARED.

BF asked me how many backups I have for my scrapbooking digital files, I told him about 5, DVD,3 dif HD and Mediafire. So how many back ups do you have? Media fire is free and I am sure 4shared too.

As for Nanjing, it's beautiful. I got to go there yesterday and saw a bit of view admist the crowd.

Yesterday's freebies are not everyone's cuppa tea.. But today will be my second mural stickers. This time they are also stickers from my Murals I did in Germany and this set I have the stone lion and the red dragon and also branch of olive with one daisy that i drew in ink. Enjoy it.

The next freebie is the INSPIRED BY AMELIE, they did not reply back to me after the 4th coresspondent, I wish they did, whether they like my idea or not. I think not many people are confortable in saying "sorry we don't like you to contact us anymore." They prefer to just keep quiet and ignore. The Cyber Culture is actually not polite but hey, I just do what I can and that is to share my creation with you.

WIDGETS and TWO Freebies! No wait Three!

Holiday!!! Celebrate!! Come and Celebrate .. it is my holiday.. Something like this, by one of Madonna's song in the 80s. But I am feeling it. You may also noticed that I have gone a little bonkers on WIDGETS. Yes, I have discovered them, well I didn't know the NeoCounter is a widget. I have added 7 more widgets to my blog. My favourites? The Blog pets! I have these pets before in real life and of course they out lived me. So it is really cool to have them virtually. Sometimes my brain still thinks I am in the 80s and finding cool things like the widgets with VIRTUAL pets just gives me the adrenaline to go on, and because of this I am almost finished with my NOV Oriental Challenge. Crazy eh?

Speaking of Widget, it is in the dictionary, cause when I typed it there's no red lines from Blogger. I believe 10 years ago, widget is not in our dictionary, just like WOK and TOFU. That is what I like about the English Language, it is ever growing, ever adopting, ever living and the list goes on you let me but I will stop here.

Speaking of.. again, yes, ever growing language reminds me Roald Dahl, he is one of my favourite writers. I learnt about him in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - the movie. I was fascinated by that all flavoured chewing gum, and that got me started on his books. He is ever making up new words... especially in BFG (BTW the reason he wrote BFG was because he loves Giant!) Words like SWISHFIGGLER, SNOZZCUMBER and one of my favourite WHIZPOPPING. Because of Dahl, I got interested in English - the language.

So, Widget is a new word for me. I heard of it when I saw them on my BF's MAC but I only thought it is for MAC and I have only the non MAC laptop.But thanks to Blogger I can play with widgets.

If you translate Chinese to English literary it sounds like new words too and sometimes it's quite funny. There were two moments in my teaching life that I have encountered that. Once a student wrote, "To cros strit you must be SMALL HEART, if not you will have accident." I called the student to my table (I was teaching in a Chinese Language school in Malaysia then)I asked, " what do you mean by SMALL HEART?"
He had a baffling look because he really believed it was English. He responded confidently, "It means careful, Ms ET! I can not believe you don't know this." It turned out that he translated careful to SMALL HEART from Chinese to English! He wanted to show off his vocabulary fluency.

In Chinese Careful means SMALL HEART when translated literary. Just like tofu which mean BEAN MUSH, I believe. I also had a student who wrote an apology letter and mentioned the word PRESSURE TEMPERATURE, literary translation from Chinese that means angry. Sometimes, I wondered wouldn't it be cool to adopt these words as well because they do make our reading more interesting.

Here are a few words of Chinese that are cool and I think the English language should adopt them in the dictionary like Widget, Wok and Tofu.
Computer - Electric Brain.
Restaurant - Rice Shop
Hotel - Big Alcohol Shop
Telephone - Electric Words
Hair Drying - Wind Cylinder
Bread - Flour Bun
and more.

Thus bring me to this weekend's freebie. I made up a new word from the doodles I have made the other day. Fleebitz! What does it mean? It means, little bits of flying thinglings doodled by ETScrap's designer LIZ!! Ha..what do you think of it? I think they will be a good strange thinglings for people who celebrates Halloween or just like to put something fun on their Layouts. Back to my "From Germany with Love" freebie series, today will be Murals in a Germany. Yes, I paint murals in summer in Germany. Here is one of the pictures of the murals, and from the murals I have made stickers for you.

I had a lot of fun doing this mural and I did this wall and the sunflower table in 4 days. It was a spontaneous idea. I was asked what I like do to someday and I said, "You know I like Hayao Miyazaki and when I went to his museum in Tokyo, I love the idea that he painted faux windows etc. If I have a home of my own, I would dedicate one wall or two to my painting of faux something or a mural."

Next thing I know, I had brushes in my hand, 5 primary colour paint bottles and I was standing in front of a wall!! So, here is the first set of my mural stickers. Hope you like it.

The GOLDEN week and a Freebie today.

Good Day.. TGIF!
The Golden week is here! Every year from the Oct 1st to the 7th it is called the GOLDEN week. Not because it rain of gold nor the Chinese paint their city gold (instead of red though red is also an auspicious colour in this part of the world)

It started off as a trial basis where everyone in China gets a mandatory 3 days off. Why? To get the Chinese to spend money, all work no play makes Chinese people not spend money (sorry, chinglish usage). And after 1999 the trail basis becomes official because the WHOLE of China, I do mean the WHOLE, spent 1.62billion yuan that trial year. Oh what a Golden week for the people who receives those money.

So, if you are an expat in China, you know never to travel on the GOLDEN week. Not even in your own city, don't even think of stepping out of the door to visit a museum or something. STAY HOME. Why? Well us expat has never really travelled with BILLION of people.

Last year a friend decided to go to Beijing to see the Great Wall of China. I told her not to go, wait for Easter break (remember the Chinese don't celebrate this) She said, "Well, I have travelled a lot, summer in Europe by the beach, that's a lot of people, in Rome, LOADs of people etc." I coolly responded, "It's different here."
She returned and told me,"It was a nightmare, imagine the Great Wall, such HUGE place and it was filled with people inch after inch!!" Not only that she added, there were a lot of touching, pushing, shouting and just pure human making noise of a million people. Oh not to add the spitting and mysterious smell in the air and hard to get transportation.

It's hard to imagine China being so big, maybe Americans can as you are in a big country too, and not everyone has visited all the places in China. I come from Malaysia and I haven't been all over Malaysia, so imagine being Chinese. How long does it take for a man to see the whole of China? 10 years? 20 year? Fortunately for China, the Chinese loves to travel, many have not been to the Great Wall or the Terracotta Warriors, or Hong Kong etc. When they travel they spend, "work hard play hard" motto.

For many years, I have not travelled on the GOLDEN week (well just the past 3 years actually) This year I am braving myself to do it, mainly because we have found a great place to relax outside of Shanghai (See youtube clip at the bottom of the blog). If I am on my own, I would opt my cozy apartment, television and digiscrapping.

I have my train tickets delivered yesterday. I have my Resort and Spa booked (they will pick us up) I know the train station will be packed. Here let me show you two pictures, one at the Shanghai Station and the other is when we arrived at Nanjing Station.

And these pictures were taken on a weekend of a NON-Golden Week Holiday. I will take another picture this weekend and let you see the difference, I am curious as well.

Today's freebie is CLOUD Papers! I am starting a small new series call FROM GERMANY WITH LOVE. I have many beautiful flowers and pictures of this beautiful country. Blue skies and all things green. You don't really see this kind of blue skies with pretty clouds in Shanghai skyline. As you know I am still learning to 'make' things so with these clouds I have used pattern to make it look a little old. Hope you like it.

Stones, Stones Stones and A Freebie.

It's Thursday! Tomorrow is the last day of work and I will be away again 4 days 3 nights at a Resort and Spa. The last time I was there, there were tones of stones lying around. TONS and what did I do, besides lounging around in the private pool in the villa? I had slung my camera over my head and started taking tons of Pictures of these stones. Here they are!

Feel free to copy these two stone pictures for your own use or commercial use as well.

What did I do with them? Make something of course. I know I have seen some designers making Stone alphas and I couldn't download them because it was in 4Shared. So it is this opportunity I can make them.

I extracted each stone carefully and then placed an embossed letter on this. After 16 stones I got impatient and copied previous stones and add the letters. So the stone alpha freebis is actually in one page. I think I am getting better in making Alphas..:) What do you think? Here is the preview of the STONE ALPHA.

Chinese Girls Series

Two blogs a day! Well actually I planned to set the freebie today but just got sidetracked by what I read today.
Today will be the Chinese girl series. This is the 4th girl and she is holding a fan. I like making these stickers because they are fun to draw and she has always been my doodle girl when I was teenager. Everytime I would doodle in my exercise books it would be her. She does have a name, I call her Ping Ping. She has a teenage friend call Koko.. when I get the time I will draw a few Koko for you. But now Ping Ping will have to do. I have decided to be a little more proactive in my blogging and to my few other sites than just inactive.

Today at DigiscrapDepot, I read an old posting about designing and courtesy. Apparently it is not easy to get to be part of a designing team and many great designers get turned down, not just designers like me, who is just a beginner.

At the beginning of the this month I was really excited that my visitors count jumped from 400 to now more than 5000. Looking at my numbers of downloads also made me feel really happy, and one day it dawned on me that the number of comments and downloads do not match. I did wonder if this is normal.. I looked at my own freebie hunting sessions when I first started scrapping I too did not thank these freebie givers. First, I don't know them, and second, I was too busy hunting.

Only when I started to do my own design to match with my pictures, I know it takes hours or weeks to make a kit. I have to juggle with work, boyfriend, colleagues and friends and yet must find time to design as I have projects on my own to fulfill. I can not imagine designers who are also moms, it would be even harder.

I started to leave comment.. even a short tyvm. *Thank you Very Much* and also feel happy that the designers are getting their thanks from others too. That got me to start this blog. I wanted to give freebies back to the digiscrap freebie community. I am happy for IkeaGoddess,Chickencoop, DigiFree and DigifreeDepot to give us lists of freebies and allow us to have a place to promote our freebies.

But, sometime this month I was feeling a little drained. I realised comments are very important to the designers. We get our adrenaline rush and encouragements from people who take from us. I guess it is easier to forget courtesy when you don't really see the designers or know the designers.

As for me, I will try not to be discouraged about less comments or no comments when I see people downloading my things. I will go back to my first passion why I have this blog, as to share what I have with others as I have also taken from others too. But I deep down, I do LOVE comments, it really one way to know if some one really like my freebies or do they just download it because it's free!

Grabbers, when you have time, and I know you do, especially while you wait for the download to complete, click on the comments and thank the designer who gives you the freebies for your future lovely Layouts. We thank someone who wraps our presents for free during Christmas time, we thank colleagues who uses their time to help us out, in some culture they thank and tip postmen at Christmas seasons. So, let us also thank designers to brings us beautiful papers and elements to bring use beautiful Layout to your album, hybrid projects and projects.

Monday Blues Again

How was your Monday, or more like how is your Monday so far?
Mine's ok.. in fact it iwll be over in 6hours, 4 more days to work and we have a 9 day holiday!! Woo Wee.. that is for sure.

It's the National Holiday for China, something like the Independence day for US.. it's that idea. I will be going back to Kayumanis, the Private Villa Resort and Spa.. I will probably take more pictures of Nanjing this time because this package I am taking gives us a free trip to Nanjing for a day.. how cool is that. But I think I will spend most of my time lounging by the private pool and be in the hot spring jacuzzi and do nothing.

While I am looking forward to my next holiday I am going to share this with you today. Another Nice Yellow Flower.

Hello! Monday is here sooner for me than for you.
Today my scrappin buddy, Susan, came over to do some work. We spent about 6 hours! Phew!
Anyway, besides doing what we were doing we caught up with our latest work or design(that's me).
Besides, scrappin we also make movies from our pictures and videos. (like the ones at the bottom of this blog) So, when we need a break from this we do that.

Anyway, I finally managed to make my own glittery things. I have always admire those that can do this...Finally I came upon a brush that can help people like me, who is not too good at computer designing but loves to design anyway. So, here's a preview.. not a freebie yet as I have to upload it in my mediafire..tell me what you think? Susan said it does look like glitters.. I still think I need to do a bit more work on them.

Hello there!
Here's the rest of the On the Road Kit. The weekend is here. I will be going to the computer cities this weekend for some techy shopping.
I like to have the port for extra USB port. I am running out of USB port for my external harddrives. Today I will be doing some scrap spring cleaning, I just bought the latest ACDSee and I will be doing a lot of organization and hopefully I will have a bit more room after this. I have many many Alpha and Embelishments Duplicates so thus the Spring cleaning.

Are you using ACDSee as well? Any tips?

Monday Flood! Freebies for you

Yes, I work up this morning and made sure I left the apartment before 7am. On rainy days it is very difficult to catch a cab to work. I got to school and the surrounding areas were already showing signs of blocked pipes. Then I realised (30mins later) school was cancelled, but by then, the teachers that came in later told me the water rose to their calf and teachers who are shorter told me it reaches their thighs!! I knew I was trapped at school and I guess I would wait until the flood subsided. 6 hours later, after lunch, I barged out barefooted wanted to be home in the cozy bed, I thought how lucky I was as I caught a cab right away. Little did I know I was stuck in the traffic for almost 2 hours (2km only!)

I told the cabbie, "That's it I am getting out and walking back." He gave me an apologetic chuckle and pointed me the way that headed towards my apartment. Of course I knew I couldn't walk home, it would probably take me another 2 hours, as I could have gotten lost too. I have never walked home!

Again, as I prayed, I saw a motorcycle 'taxi' and we wheeled pass rows of honking cars and shouting men! (and women) I got home and was in a very bad mood.

Now 4 hours later, I feel better, showered and disinfected myself (flood water unthinkable bacteria!!!) I think I will give away my Japanese Candy Alpha today.

It's not my perfect work, in fact it's my first alpha. But I used it in my LO, loved it! They are the Japanese Candies I took when I was holidaying in Tokyo. THey are very bright and cute and one day, I thought that will be cool to have some alphas for my Japan Holiday Scrapbooking. So I made it.

I hope you like it. I love it and so did my scrap buddy Susan!

Freebie Challenge for this Oriental Kit

I had a freebie Challenge in the older post and I am bring it up again because I think this is such a nice Oriental kit. The Chinese love little ornaments with good wishes, it is somewhat like a lucky charm.
In this kit there are 4 hanging ornaments where you can put one of the 17 characters on the ornaments.
I have made pearls and jade beads as well.

Help Needed

Well when I first started this blog, I made a very small Title for the page. After surfing and admiring so many people's Title Blog I decided to change. However, I have a problem. If you look at my new Blog Title.. there's still that red background. I can't find a way to get rid of it. I know, I know.. you must be thinking "if I can use PSE , why can't she get rid of that red background?"
Truth I can't *sob* if you know how, could you please tell me how?

My Blog TItle looks ugly with that and I know it has been there for a long while.
Can you advice me? Please leave me a comment. I would really appreciate it.

Hello there,
As you can see I am back in action :) I am not designing as much. Because I want to take time to scrap. I have started to have a scrap journal. Going back to my first digital pictures to present time. And I have a few Christmas project on my way so but I am still learning new things and when I get it done, I will share it.

So, below are three templates. It's my first time making templates. I personally like templates but I also like to just do my own LO. To advance into my PSE skills I thought I should try out template making. So, here's three. I have tried it, but I dont know if it really works. Please leave a comment if it works!! Chinese Character Kit.

This is a very fun kit, especially for digicrappers who likes a little orient on their LOs. I started making the Chinese characters. As I was finishing I looked at my deco. shelf and realised I have also a few hanging deco with the auspicious Characters on them and I started creating the hanging deco.

All together I have 18 auspicious characters, 4 hanging deco and strings of pearls and jades, paper clips and 4 decorated paper. I have great FUN!! Here have a look at the kit!

What else is fun in this kit? You can change the characters on the hanging deco to fit your LO theme. I am sure you realised that now as the hanging decos are blank.

Painted Umbrellas

When I was a little girl I used to have a Chinese painted umbrella, I was five and I would use it to walk to kindergarten just opposite of my house. I love it because at that age you love anything with tassles, it ran along the edge of the opened umbrella. But I have forgotten what colour is that umbrella, I just know I had it once.

This weekend, as I was roaming around Shanghai, and went to the Bund (a famous place here) To cross the road I have to use the underground subway tunnel to get to the other side. There were many ads along with 10 feet tall print of Van Gogh's works. There I was these painted umbrellas and decided to make kit.

I takes about 5 to 7 hours to finish a kit. This is just an inspirational kit... at the moment there are many kits I like to make. If you have a suggestion on what kit for me to create, leave a comment and I will try to create them.

Mother's Kitchen

Dreamt of my mom yesterday and thought of the cookies she made for Chinese New Year. Every year, when growing up, she would make the best cookies ever. We never baked cookies for Christmas, only Chinese New Year. Even though we celebrate Christmas but Chinese New Year is the time where you visit friends for 15 days!!! and try home made cookies. As I grew older she doesn't bake as much as she used to. These are the utensils she used.

I know there are people who makes recipes cards for their recipes boxes. I hope you find the stickers useful.

Unpredictable Spring

Spring is definitely here. In some parts of the world, it is still raining and in some parts of the world the weather in warming up (except the equatorial area) In Shanghai, it's still colder than usual and the rain brought more cold front. But the buds are out and the first sign of spring in China are the cherry blossoms and the pink peonies.

I went for a long walk and taking my humble samsung dig camera with me. I climbed over brushes and bushes to get to that one perfect flower or bend, twist and stretched my body to get the perfect angle of one flower. All is good!! I love how it turned out. So, today I made a small kit for my challenge and would like to give it as freebie as a gift of Spring.

Yes, I got the TOU finished and would like to thank my CT leader for her advice. Well, I am also adding Splendid Sanya Add On. These are my first kits, I hope people like it because as you know, it's very hard to show people what you do especially you are so new at this. However, I have received many freebies when I first started Digital Scrapbooking as well and I thought it would be good to play my role in making other newbies happy.

I know my PSE skills is so amateurish, the lines are not refined and other flaws as well. So, I welcome comments from you whether you like my kits or hate it. I welcome both.. That's how one improves right? Since I am self learning I thought it would be a good way to learn from other comments.

Completed 3 Kits, what do you think?

I manage to complete three kits. As I am new to this, I get my inspiration from my surrounding.
I am planning to give these kits as freebies. but I have get around making the TOU. I don't really know how. I have seen other TOUs and they are quite complicated .. I wonder if I can just ask them if I can copy their TOU.

The first one is Pretty Paisley Kit. I especially like the lace corner and the frame. The lace corner is paisley inspired. Download this kit here.

My second kit is called Oriental Overture. Inspired by all things Chinese. I will be adding add ons to this kit. I really enjoyed creating this kit, espcially the Chinese Opera Mask and the Chinese Knotting. I learn a few new skills on my PSE.

This third kit is Splendid Sanya. I was there this Easter. I thought of palm trees, exotic flowers, sand stones. Well this one definately has add ons because I made some frames and brads but ran out of room to display it.

Yes, finally is the word I like to say. I have been trying and trying and I think it's still unstable. But will try it anyway. What have I been trying? To start a blog from China (I realised it was block maybe not anymore??).. cut the long story short. I am here, I am a digiscrapper. A newbie digi scrapper.

When I started I scrapped about 100 LO's but realised I can not post it because I don't know what kits I have used. I never thought I would be here.. blogging about digiscrapping.

Anyway, I have tons to learn. I hope you will have a good time with things I have design.
